Hi!

If you like to run debian on your carambola board, you may find the attached installation instructions useful.

However, there are currently a couple of shortcomings:

* at the moment only nfsroot works - I'm having difficulties booting the root file system from USB stick (I'll issue a separate post on this topic)

* wifi is not running, yet

* I couldn't yet find a suitable cross-compile toolchain. It's possible to use the uClibc cross-compile that comes with the OpenWRT but then you need to compile/link with "-static" so that the binary doesn't use the dynamic glibc (and others) that come with debian. I guess a cross-compile that drops out of build-root would do it but I didn't tested that, yet.

* instructions on how to build a kernel suitable for debian
* instructions on how to run debian from a USB stick
* instructions on how to setup the wifi with debian

It's working pretty well for me, now!

Make sure to have the 32mm wire attached or otherwise the USB bug will drive you crazy

How is the rt3050 support, how much space does an average setup take, and so on and so forth ... think of it being a sales interview: (" Why would I want to install debian on my precious carambola ?")

I think having Debian as repo gives us more packages. Debian is also more common for people to set up.

How much need to have RAM , FLASH on board for Debian ?

Yes I am working on Carambola version which is based on new MT7620 chip.It is a little bit smaller than RT3052.It support NAND flash and DDR2 ram.
Also it has SD card interface.
We were going to put 128MB NAND flash and 128 MB ram but flash/ram size can be increased.
If to use Debian also need to port wifi driver from SDK too.
