When you plug your cam, IS there a /dev/video0 showing up ?
If so, try starting mjpg_streamer and opening <carambola IP>:8080/?action=stream or :8080/webcam/?action=stream (I don't remember if there was a subdir set in the default mjpg_streamer config, please check yourself)
