how to pass option to the module at boot with the kernel cmdline

make kernel_menuconfig
Kernel hacking --->(rootfstype=squashfs,jffs2) Default kernel command string
rootfstype=squashfs,jffs2 usbserial.vendor=0x0123 usbserial.product=0x0123
kernel_menuconfig > Kernel hacking > Default kernel command string

does not work for me.

cat /proc/cmdline shows:
board=CARAMBOLA console=ttyS1,115200 rootfstype=squashfs,jffs2 usbserial.vendor=0x099e usbserial.product=0x0002
