Post subject:  openwrt trunk after v2.3-rc4

v2.3-rc4 for carambola 1 is now outofdate.
no plan to update it ?
who use the trunk with the carambola 1 ? and can share patch or other to get ready.
After building i have some problem with the network. no packet goes out.
the process is :
svn co svn://svn.openwrt.org/openwrt/trunk/
cd trunk
./scripts/feeds update -a
./scripts/feeds install -a
make menuconfig
Target System (Ralink RT288x/RT3xxx)
make world V=99
bin/ramips/openwrt-ramips-rt305x-carambola-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin by tftp

Yep I'm equally disappointed. It seems like the 8devices crew have just dumped Carambola 1 support in favour of Carambola2 which is hardly a good way to reassure customers - are they going to do the same with Carambola 2 when the next one comes out?

Surely there should be a single forked repository supporting both Carambola 1 and Carambola 2 using 'make menuconfig' to select the appropriate profile, and this should be kept in step with Openwrt releases?

If I had known that Carambola 1 firmware would be allowed to get a year behind the Openwrt distribution I would have been thinking twice about buying. As it is I'm seriously considering whether I can risk investing any more time in Carambola if it's effectively out of support.

Views from anyone else?

Hi,
if you have a problem with Carambola firmware or packages please write here:

for Carambola1:
https://github.com/8devices/carambola/issues
for Carambola2:
https://github.com/8devices/carambola2/issues
packages:

u-boot

our programmers don't follow this forum.

This isn't about a specific problem gedass, so writing where you suggest is completely missing the point.

We are talking about your long-term strategy for keeping the firmware up-to-date with security patches and new features. I appreciate we're not paying 8devices for ongoing maintenance so I'm not expecting you to do all the work, but what should have happened is for your Carambola-specific work to be pushed back into the main Openwrt development trunk so future Openwrt open-source community development is usable on the Carambola.

Instead it seems we're expected to stick with a version of Openwrt from a specific point in time and never update.

For me this is going to be a deal-breaker which is a real shame as I think you've done an excellent job on the hardware - Carambola is an extremely useful and unique product that deserves to do well, but if you aren't going to support it properly from a software strategy / roadmap perspective you'll find that customers stop buying it......
