Post subject:  Carambola Dev-Board maximum current @ 5V

Hi there,

I am planning to use the prototyping area on the Carambola Dev-Board, where I already spotted some rails for GND, 5V and 3.3V.
I assume these pads are the same lines that are wired upon the appr. pins in J5 header area.
What current am I safely able to draw from the two 3.3V and 5V lines?
I am going to hook up an external GPS receiver which already hosts 3.3V level UART Rx/Tx on an micro USB connector, which also
can be used to power the device (and charge the battery, if inserted).
It is a Holux GPSlim236 unit, the label says a maximum of 800 mA @ 5V would be needed (I assume for charging).
I do not know any real values by now, as I do not have any measurement equipment here by now.
But if you say it would not be save to power the GPS device from the prototype area's rails, I will go for an extra supply.

Thanks in advance!

Philipp
