Firstly, carambola2-packages and carambola2-luci: As best I can tell from the commit logs, these are just a snapshot of the openwrt packages and luci feeds from a point in time in the past. If I'm building images myself from the carambola2 openwrt fork on github, can't I just use the regular openwrt package trees? Secondly, What exactly is the status on getting the carambola2 upstreamed? I see that it's already in trunk, and as best I can tell, the only meaningful patch outstanding is software i2c support: https://github.com/8devices/carambola2/ ... 229b71a640 (Changing the .config file doesn't really count for anything) Is this scheduled for upstream at all? What's the roadmap, are there any future changes expected that will only be in the carambola2 repository, or will the openwrt trunk repository be useful from now on, now that it's merged? |

As a followup, I've built carambola2 images from openwrt trunk (git rev 7b0a7ef761def12bc05307711a7e9a2889b7e011) and it works just fine with stock openwrt code and stock openwrt package feeds. Excellent! |

That is very good news Karl. Have you any idea whether the same will be true of Carambola 1? I've just posted about my disappointment that 8devices seem to have cut-and-run away from supporting that with a repository that is a year out of date, but clearly if it's possible to swap directly to the main Openwrt github the problem is very much less acute. Your question / point about roadmap is absolutely spot on - we all need to be confident that we aren't going to be stuck with fixed, outdated firmware with no way to get the latest patches and features, especially from a security perspective...... |

@karlp: Would you be so kind to upload a sysupgradable image (or similar) of OpenWRT for carambola2? Will it be possible to install packages listed on http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/ ... /packages/ after having downloaded OpenWRT binaries on to board? I am primarily interested in mosquitto* packages (an MQTT broker). Thanks! |

there is a problem with your github could you confirm that to use the carambola 1 profile you need to choose: Target System (Ralink RT288x/RT3xxx) ---> Subtarget (RT3x5x/RT5350 based boards) ---> Target Profile (Default Profile) ---> This gives an error: dd: opening `/home/dev1/HR/openwrt/socrates/gitsocrates/bin/ramips/openwrt-ramips-rt305x-whr-g300n-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin': No such file or directory |

sur, we don't need of this failed binary, but the compilation does not go until the end, and i don't know if it is correct ? A better thing is to complete the compilation. What the difference between your git and the openwrt trunk ? |
