Hi hubaiz,

i tried you android app on my galaxy tab 2 7.0 with my Canon 450D and 1000D.
Findings:
USB Connection seem to be unstable; i have to try with another app to see whether the problem is with my hw or you app ;)
With my 1000D i can switch on LV from the app and hear the mirror moving but no live picture on my tab.
My 450D does get recognized by your app but things like LV do apparently nothing.
Did not try to relay with carambola yet...

If you need some debugging output from the communication with my cameras let me know.

I hope your work can be integrated in our carambola based project: a telescope control system. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWyo-2PWCHA)

Regards
Michael

Nice project. :)

I uploaded a new version to http://code.google.com/p/dslrdashboard/ ... akechanges .
This one has some updated code for the Canon LV so if you have time please try this one.
This one also has the 'Save LV' button enabled on the right side, it allows you to save the LV packet from camera and later send it to me so I can analyze it.
To do it:
-press the LV button.
-if camera switches to LV mode then press 1-2 times the 'Save LV' button. If you can change the foucs mode and for every focus mode make 1-2 saves.
-the images are saved to the sdram saving location, by default DCIM/DSLR
-zip the files and send them to me

I have these USB OTG adapters http://dx.com/p/micro-usb-on-the-go-hos ... pair-50774 and had no problems with them on SG2 and Nexus7.
A friend of my has other OTG cables and he says that some are not working properly.

Hi hubaiz,

i can report some success with my 1000D and V0.30.16 beta:

Camera get recognized and connected to if i plug in the wide Samsung connector - with the usb cable attached to and the camera turned on - to the tab.
If i attach the usb later -> no recognition...

I get LV with a picture :) but "Save LV" does nothing. /mnt/sdcard/DCIM is empty - no DSLR sub directory. :( (save location is set to that path)

With the 450D no camera recognition in any way.

Regards
Michael

Hi

Thanks both of you for testing, I was a bit busy at work so had not much time.
The Canon code is very 'young' and probably lot of things missing as no documentation from Canon and without a physical device it's hard to code.

Can you check in your dmesg if the camera was recognized by the Android kernel. Also if the VendorId is 0x04a9. Also can you check/provide a logcat when you was trying it with DslrDashboard.
In DCIM folder there should be a DSLR folder, if it was not created (probably you didn't visit the gallery yet) then you can create it.
If you have LV image with the 1000D then there is no need to save the LV image.

I worked a bit on the server code and will see to upload the source in the upcoming days.
Also I got a Lipo Rider Pro and a 2000mah lipo battery and was playing a bit with it and Carambola.
I wired Carambola with an Y USB cable to the Lipo Rider pro and DSLR camera and working super. Seams with the 2000mah battery I can get around 4h working time.

Source is up at:

https://github.com/hubaiz/DslrDashboardServer

Probably not the best one as this is my first C/C++ app.

It needs libusb-1.0

I used this tutorial to setup eclipse: http://downloads.openwrt.org/docs/eclipse.pdf

Created a Makefile for it so a package can be built for it, updated on github.
