Did you compile a new OpenWRT image for the Carambola yet?
Because the pre-flashed image didn't work for me either, no WiFi access no matter what I tried.
With a newly flashed ROM image everything went smoothly.

The uboot bootloader on the carambola only has the option to flash an image via ethernet as far as I know.
Maybe one of the 8devices guys knows of other ways to flash the carambola, but I doubt it'll work through the serial port without first flashing a different uboot.

Your problem is running wifi and ehternet in the same network...
Disconnect ethernet and reboot. It should work then.
EDIT: Since you've set the ethernet IP address to static you should disable that in the config and then reboot...
