I seem to have locked myself out of ssh access on my carambola and I am trying to enter the openwrt failsafe mode.

Has any of you been able to access the failsafe mode without using a com cable?

I dont have a com cable at the moment, and I dont mind buying one, but if its possible to trigger failsafe without one I'd like to know.

If you don't have a serial connection to your Carambola, then how did you setup ssh in the first place?
As far as I know (my information might be a little out of date though) you need to first set a root password from the serial terminal before you can attempt to log in through ssh at all.

Either way you really should get a serial to usb adapter if you want to work with embedded hardware.

I wonder what kind of functionality a failsafe on an embedded board would have to offer. Space is pretty limited, so it couldn't be a second system.
If you used Luci to set a password at first login, then it is reasonable to assume that Luci has a way to set another root password afterwards.
