Carambola1+Devboard power up current > 1A?

Hi,
I'm using a step-down converter with 2.5A max, which works nice so far. However, I wanted to replace this with a more efficient one (TSR1 2405, 1A max). However, the TSR1 did go into an endless short-circuit mode resulting in that the carambola board would not start up.
After a few measurements, the problem was clear: My carambola dev board takes up more than 1A current when powering up. The duration of that peak is a few milliseconds, enough for the TSR1 to go into short circuit mode. Is the high startup power intentional? Or is this a problem with my board?
Also, does Carambola2 have this issue?
Thanks Felicitus
