PPP connection using 3G USB key

I would like to connect to Internet using a 3G USB key and PPP protocol, but I have some troubles:
On the OpenWRT site I found some documentation about using 3g/UMTS USB Dongle for WAN connection
but on the 8devices repository I don't find the comgt and chat packages .
How and where can I find them ? (or can I make the connection without them?)
How to download them (I checked out the whole carambola project using git, and successfully recompiled it)
Can I find some documentation with all the packages and the exact steps to make the connection?
(I would like to make a shell script to activate it, and another script to deactivate it).
Furthermore, is there a standard way/tool to query the modem and retrieve/set some configuration parameters under openwrt?
