The untapped potential of mmWave

The 60GHz spectrum relies on directional beamforming to deliver high-speed, high-volume wireless connectivity with no associated licensing fees. Use the PRM2141X DVK to unlock this under-used spectrum band’s performance potential and develop exciting new solutions for your clients. This spectrum band’s regulatory simplicity and low cost of entry can also help ensure impressive ROI.

FirmUx

The PRM2141X DVK is powered by the 8devices FirmUx startup and configuration system, built on the OpenWrt build system. Together with the Board Support Package (BSP), it provides low-level hardware support and enables developers to easily integrate custom packages, build firmware upgrade images, and customize the platform for their application. In addition to the standard FirmUx capabilities, the PRM2141X platform includes mmWave-specific features such as directional antenna aiming, automatic dynamic channel and channel width adjustment, and other wireless optimization tools.

Solutions

Wireless broadband

mmWave connectivity enables wireless broadband solutions that deliver fiber-like performance without the cost and complexity of deploying new cabling. Its combination of multi-gigabit throughput, highly directional communication, and flexible and scalable point-to-point or point-to-multipoint network architectures makes it well suited for fixed wireless access, wireless backhaul, and high-capacity last-mile connectivity.

Security and surveillance

mmWave connectivity delivers multi-gigabit links capable of carrying multiple HD or even 8K video streams with low latency. With correctly configured directional antennas, its minimal RF signal leakage reduces the potential for interference and interception. These characteristics make mmWave an excellent choice for the rapid and unintrusive deployment of high-bandwidth surveillance infrastructure.

Smart cities

Millimeter-wave technology provides the high-capacity backbone needed to interconnect bandwidth-intensive applications with minimal interference. From intelligent intersections and public safety systems to wireless infrastructure expansion and edge connectivity, mmWave offers a flexible foundation for building scalable, high-performance city networks that can evolve alongside future digital services.
