Our engineers are always looking out for ways to refine our products, and our newest product change notification is no exception. We are proud to notify readers about a new PCN for our Carambola 3 that will enhance its flexibility without disrupting existing users’ layouts.
Timely PCNs are part of our product change and end of life notification policy, which you can review here. The official PCN for this change can be found on the Carambola 3 Wiki and product page, but we’re sharing a basic breakdown of what we’re changing here as well.
- Support for three new Ethernet ports are being added to the Carambola 3;
- The new additions make no changes to existing pins, so clients will not need to make any additions to existing DVKs or carrier boards unless they want to take advantage of the newly added pins;
- New Carambola 3 SoMs will be compatible with current Carambola 3 DVKs and carrier boards;
This change will come into effect on April 6th, 2026, after which all new Carambola 3 SoMs and DVKs will feature the aforementioned changes. If you have any questions or comments about the changes we’re making, feel free to contact our engineers at info@8devices.com
